Dr. Thangamuthu Sathiyamoorthy MBBS MHA

The most senior of the three physicians, Dr. Sathiyamoorthy is a graduate of University of Jaffna Medical Faculty. He was first appointed as the Medical Officer (MO) at Nawalapitiya District Hospital in southern Sri Lanka. He later became the MO at Kilinochchi District Hospital in the north-east of the country.

In recognition of his outstanding medical service and managerial skills, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health promoted Dr. Sathiyamoorthy to the position of Deputy Provincial Director of Health Services (DPDHS) and Medical Superintendent at Kilinochchi General Hospital. As the DPDHS Kilinochchi, Dr. Sathiyamoorthy oversaw health services in a district serving a local population of 200,000. During the recent conflict, Dr.Sathiyamoorthy continued to serve the population he was assigned to at Puthumathalan and Mullivaikal make-shift hospitals. He is the married father of 2 children.

Dr. Veerakaththi Shanmugarajah MBBS

Dr. Shanmugarajah, a graduate of the University of Jaffna Medical Faculty, was first appointed to the position of Medical Officer (MO) at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. He later served as MO at Kilinochchi District Hospital and District Medical Officer (DMO) at Mullaitivu District Hospital.

Dr. Shanmugarajah developed a reputation for his compassion and was well-liked by his staff. He was soon promoted to Medical Superintendent at Mullaitivu General Hospital. Dr. Shanmugarajah had the opportunity to immigrate to Canada, but decided instead to stay in the country of his birth. As the conflict intensified in recent months, Dr. Shanmugarajah remained at his post to serve the civilian population. He last worked at Puthumathalan and Mullivaikal make-shift hospitals. Dr.Shanmugarajah is the married father of 3 children.

Dr. Thurairajah Varatharajah MBBS

Dr. Thurairajah, the youngest of the three physicians, is also a graduate of the University of Jaffna Medical Faculty. He was first appointed as the Medical Officer (MO) at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. He later worked as the MO at Vakarai Divisional Hospital in Batticalloa, in eastern Sri Lanka.

Known for his astute clinical skills and enthusiasm, Dr. Varatharajah was promoted by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health to the position of Deputy Provincial Director of Health Services (DPDHS) Mullaitivu District. During the recent months of the conflict, Dr.Thurairajah had to improvise and run a hospital out of a school. He last served at Puthumathalan and Mullivaikal make-shift hospitals. Dr. Thurairajah is the married father of 1 child.
